Beating the Amphan Crisis Differently

UN Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric told reporters about Amphan -“It is believed that around 10 million people in Bangladesh are impacted by the cyclone, with half a million families potentially having lost their homes”. Although the cyclone impacted 26 districts of Bangladesh, Satkhira, Bagerhat and Patuakhali suffered the maximum damage.

Cyclone damaged roads, bridges, culverts and embankments. Several fish ponds were inundated with sea water causing loss to the farmer.  Thousands of huts and Kutcha houses were damaged due to cyclone. In addition to the destruction of housing in Amphan, another major problem has been created – the dire crisis of sanitary toilets. Since the water of the area has already been polluted due to the tidal wave, the locals are suffering due to the lack of toilets like ‘death blows’.

KKF in collaboration with Give Bangladesh decided to make 10 toilets for the people of Koyra Sub-district. With the consultation of disaster management specialist the toilet was established in such a manner so that 25 families may use one toilet. In this regard approximately 250 family (5 to 8 family size) were covered through this project.
